Position Summary

The School Counsellor will plan, organize and implement appropriate social-emotional and behavioral support programs within a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their personal potential. The School Counsellor will provide student support, counsel students with academic needs and provide student encouragement.

Position Responsibilities

  • Provide counselling to youth experiencing family, personal or social problems;
  • Develops progress reports for the schools on student behavior and performance;
  • Respond to referrals made by family members, school staff, students, peers, or community agencies;
  • Ability to resolve crisis and conflict situations and develop positive relationships with students;
  • Support students in building coping skills, learn positive strategies to deal with emotions, improve family and school communication and coordinate services with other community agencies;
  • Available to enhance the development of a student’s educational, social and emotional experiences;
  • Infuse, liaison and counselling strategies with Piikani way of knowing – Piikanissini;
  • Adhere to Peigan Board of Education Policy and Procedures;
  • Establish and communicate clear outcomes for all counselling activities;
  • Prepare lessons for classroom presentations and counselling activities;
  • Work with an individual student or group of students as required;
  • Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in counselling activities;
  • Identify and select counselling methods to meet students’ varying needs;
  • Use relevant technology to support instruction;
  • Provide appropriate feedback on counselling to students, parents, administration and teachers;
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress reports and development;
  • Participate in school meetings (staff, parent, committee, specialist, collaborative).

Qualifications & Education Requirements

  • Child Youth Care Work designation from an accredited institution. Preference will be given to individuals with Bachelor of Arts in counselling or human services;
  • Minimum three years of work experience in youth counselling or related field;
  • Trauma informed certification would be an asset
  • Clear Criminal Record Check and Intervention Check
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Blackfoot Language & Culture
  • COVID-19 vaccinated

Post-Secondary Education Administrative Assistant

Announcing the Availability of the Following Full Time Position: Post-Secondary Education Administrative Assistant

Position: Full Time Term: 12 months Start Date: TBD

Position Summary

The PSE Administrative Assistant will assist the PSE Coordinator in the delivery of the Post-Secondary education program with a focus on PBOE post-secondary language initiatives. The student support worker is responsible for a wide variety of student support services and administrative duties, including administration and technical supports in addition to more complex functions and services for the Post-Secondary Education Department.

Position Responsibilities

  • Monitor and provide wrap-around services to PBOE sponsored students
  • Provide assistance with PBOE application processes
  • Provide assistance with educational institution application processes
  • Provide referrals and advocate for students who are experiencing challenges in their programs of study
  • Provide support and encouragement to students
  • Liaise with academic advisors to assist students in navigating through their programs of study
  • Familiarize and gain knowledge of scholarship and bursary sources and provide assistance/guidance to students with applications
  • Assist the PSE Coordinator in delivering information presentations
  • Assist in administration duties such as preparing requisitions, letters, reports that require statistical data
  • Assist in PBOE projects and activities

Qualifications & Education Requirements

  • Minimum: Completion of 2 years of post-secondary courses
  • Preference: Diploma or post-secondary courses in the area of Business Administration Diploma will be acceptable, or an acceptable combination of education and progressively responsible experience,
  • Some direct work experience in an Administrative capacity
  • Clean criminal record check and intervention check;
  • Knowledge of Blackfoot/Piikani Language & Culture an asset;

Summary of Position

The Peigan Board of Education requires an Assistant Cook for PBOE’s Lunch Program. The assistant school cook will need to accurately and efficiently cook meats, vegetables, soups, and other hot food products as well as assist in preparation of cold food items. As part of the cooking process, daily tasks will be expected to be effectively completed in order to provide a healthy breakfast and lunch to the school population. This includes, but is not limited to, daily cleaning, kitchen organization, daily forms, storage, preparation, cooking and service of the daily planned meals.


  • Must possess Alberta Food Handling Certificate (updated every two years).
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in kitchen preparation and cooking.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly with Principal, staff, students, and Head
  • Be able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours).
  • Must be able to prepare food for up to three hundred fifty people on a daily
  • Must adhere to PBOE COVID-19 interim policies
  • Knowledge of Blackfoot Language & Culture
