The Martin Family Initiative chose Napi’s Playground Elementary School to be one of five schools across Canada to participate in their Model School Literacy Project. We have now been part of the project since 2016. Through this project, our teachers in K5 to Grade 3 are getting weekly professional development in the area of Literacy (Reading and Writing) to assist our student in becoming better readers and writers.

As a result of this project, we have 100 minutes of Literacy daily where we do Shared Reading and Writing, Guided Reading and Writing, and Independent Reading and Writing. We also have Literacy Nights to showcase the importance of Literacy to our students, as well as giving away books.

Through this project, we promote Literacy throughout our schools, give away lots of books and always advocate the importance of attendance.
